GENEVA COUNTY JAIL

The Geneva County Jail is a 95 bed facility located at 200 north commerce street Geneva Alabama. The Jail is Commanded by James Kelly and operated by 14 trained officers 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The Care, Custody and Control of the inmates within the facility is the number one priority of Commander Kelly and Staff.

Jail staff work 12 hour shifts to ensure maximum coverage of the facility. The staff are responsible for the booking and release of Inmates as well the day to day operations of the facility.

Inmates depending on housing and classification status are permitted visitation every other Sunday except on fifth Sundays. These dates are subject to change without warning due to any disciplinary violations. See below for rules regarding visitation.

The Geneva County Jail houses municipal, county and state inmates of both pretrial and convicted status. During their incarceration should the need arise inmates can receive on and off-site medical, dental and mental health services.

Attorney Visits:

Attorneys may enter the Geneva County Jail to visit with current clients. These attorney visits will be face to face or per the attorney’s request and pending approval from Jail Commander via telephone (Attorneys can only discuss business pertaining to current incarceration).

Attorneys must show a valid government issued identification card and a valid bar card showing their ASB number prior to entering the Jail.

Attorney visitation hours are from 8:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Attorney visits at any other times must be approved by Jail Commander.

 

Bonding Information:

Geneva County and its municipalities can issue three types of bonds depending on charge and past criminal history.  District and Circuit Court bonds are subject to the approval of Sheriff.

Cash Bond:

Geneva County misdemeanor and felony bonds can be posted through the Circuit Clerk’s office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm, excluding holidays.

Property Bond:

A property bond is based on the tax assessment of real property owned by the person(s) attempting to secure an inmates release. This property must be at least double the value of the court ordered bond and all persons named on property must sign a Homestead exemption waiver. District and Circuit property bonds must be approved by the Sheriff.

Professional Bonding Company:

Release on surety bonds may be made through the use of a private bonding company approved by the Sheriff.

Inmate Approved Items:

  • One grey sweat suit. (no hoodies)
  • One white thermal set.
  • One personal religious text (paperback)
  • Photographs approximately 10 (no polaroid or computer generated)
  • One pair of gym shorts (white or gray)
  • One clear tote (must fit beneath bunk)

*These items can only be taken in on Fridays from 7am – 7pm

 

Inmate Mail:

Inmate mail can be mailed to P.O. Box 115, Geneva AL. 36340. Please use inmates full name and exclude nick names when filling out envelopes.

All incoming an outgoing mail may be subject to search.

 

Jail Property and Personal Property:

Inmates booked into the Geneva County Jail, will have their personal effects inventoried and stored.

Geneva county will not accept property of inmates other than pocket contents and the seasonal clothing the inmate is wearing during admission. No extra clothes, baggage, suitcases, sea bags, tents or big storage bags will be accepted.

Personal property will be released to inmate when inmate is released from custody. Note that any left or unclaimed property will be disposed of 72 hours after inmate’s release.

State sentenced inmates who have been ordered to the Department of Corrections may take only the following to Kilby Correctional Facility.

  • Any legal mail
  • 25 stamps
  • 25 envelopes
  • One religious text

All other items must be picked up by family members before the inmate is transferred to Kilby or within 72hrs of departure.

 

Inmate Commissary:

The Geneva County Jail offers Commissary service through the Stacey Williams Commissary company. Orders can be placed weekly by inmates with the order deadline being Tuesday mornings a 10:00 am. Orders are received and dispensed on Thursdays except during exigent circumstances and holidays.

Money can be placed on an inmate’s account a variety of ways.

  • Via internet deposit by going to www.jailfunds.com
  • Deposit to kiosk ATM located at confinement center.
  • Money orders can be mailed to the facility with Jail Commander’s approval.

 

Inmate Visitation:

Geneva County Jail visitation is offered bi-weekly on Sundays from 1:00 pm- 3:00 pm.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 1st Sunday is the right side, 1-4 cells, Female dome
  • 2nd Sunday is the left side, Male dome
  • 3rd Sunday is the right side, 1-4 cells, Female dome
  • 4th Sunday is the left side, Male dome
  • 5th Sunday will be no visitation

Inmate visitation is subject to change or be canceled due to housing assignments within the Facility.  It is advised that you contact the Facility booking officer the day of visitation to confirm that the inmate qualifies for visitation and that you are listed on his/her visitation list.

Each inmate will fill out a visitation list which can consist of three Qualifying names of those who he/she wishes to visit with. Visitors must have a valid identification card and must not be on any type of court ordered program such as probation or community corrections etc.

Qualified visitors can begin signing in at 12:45 pm, but must be signed in no later than 2:45 pm. Visitation will be 15 minutes and a visitor can visit only one inmate per Sunday.

 Visitors will follow the dress code:

  • No revealing clothing (low cut, tank top, tube top etc.)
  • No short shorts
  • No vulgar clothing
  • No cell phones admitted into the facility.

 

Healthcare:

The Geneva County Jail, it’s staff and contractors of Southern Health Partners will not discuss an inmate’s healthcare with any family or friends due to HIPPA laws. Southern Health Partners were approved through the Geneva County Commission.

 

Medication drop off:

Medications and eyeglasses for inmates can be dropped off daily at the facility. All medications and items must be approved by medical staff.

 

Inmate Telephones:

Inmates of the Geneva County Jail have access to phones in their cells. Calls can be made 7 days a week from 7:00 am – 10:00 pm. These calls are collect calls and families/ friends are able to place money on phone accounts by calling 1 (888) 729-4326 or by logging on to legacyinmate.com.

Depending on the circumstances facility staff will attempt to allow the inmate to make a free phone call during the admissions process and after first appearances. This phone call should be bond related.

Geneva County Jail reserves the right to block or restrict phone numbers for security reasons or harassment. If you are being harassed by phone calls originating from the facility, please call 1 (334) 684-5671 and report the situation.
